Circuit Zandvoort signs off final meeting in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux

  • Sacha Norden secures the last title

  • Wonderful 2022 season shows constant growth of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux

Zandvoort, October 14, 2022. Last Friday, October 14, the last meeting of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux took place at Circuit Zandvoort. The last appointment of the Porsche brand competition crowned the last champions and handed out the last prizes in the competitions. With this latest meeting, the curtain falls on the sporty Porsche season in the Benelux, a season that was more than once a wonderful sporting and human adventure. In Zandvoort, Sacha Norden secured the title in the Division IV GT4 and remarkably, father and son Verhoeven took silver and bronze in Division I for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992.

Everything comes to an end and so will motorsport with Porsche in 2022. The Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux headed for one of the beautiful circuits in the Benelux for the last time of the season last Friday and, just like before the season kick-off, Circuit Zandvoort was at the North Sea coast, a theater for two exciting 30-minute races. Two races in which the participants had to deal with very different weather conditions, but that is of course one of the challenges of motorsport.

“Indeed, we finished at Circuit Zandvoort with another nice starting field and exciting races”, Series Manager Lars Plato looks back on the final. “The fact that our competition is also one for young drivers was shown once again in the first race, with a victory for Jaxon Verhoeven (Speedlover). Floris Dullaart (Team GP Elite) came in second and our brand new champion in the Division II (Type 991), Michel Arfman (Team GP Elite), made an excellent transition to a Porsche 992 GT3 Cup and came in third. Sacha Norden (Team GP Elite) immediately secured his class title with a win in Division IV (GT4).”

In the second race, Floris Dullaart won, ahead of his teammate at Team GP Elite, Niels Troost, and Jean-Pierre Verhoeven (Speedlover). Alexander Goddijn gave Team GP Elite a second victory in the Division IV (GT4). Patrick van de Berg won twice in the Division IV – Class 981.

Transition of young wolves

“It was a great day of racing, according to our well-known recipe with all activities in one day,” Lars Plato continues. “We saw some new faces who were introduced to motorsport, including Rik and Sem Geerts, the sons of Ad Geerts, business manager at PGZ, official brand dealer at Porsche and of course regular participant in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. Ad also raced along, in his trusted Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 from #TeamPGZ by Redant Racing, where Rik and Sem alternately raced in a Porsche 982 GT4. They are just some of the examples of young guys finding their way into our competition.”

This concludes the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux season, but in the meantime the organization is already working hard on the 2023 season, which will be communicated in the foreseeable future.
