Will it be Niels Troost versus the home drivers?
Porsche Cayman GT4 CS covers half of the starting field
Zonhoven, June 19, 2024. The Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux is on its way to Round 2 of the 2024 season and the teams and drivers will race on the well-known asphalt of Circuit Zolder in Belgian Limburg. As is tradition, the day includes two 30-minute races, in addition to the free practice and the qualifications, all on one day: Thursday, June 20.
Niels Troost was the man in form during the opening races at Circuit Zandvoort, racing in the Porsche 992 class, but the Dutchman in the colors of Team GP Elite can certainly expect some Belgian competition at Circuit Zolder. First of all, we think of Michael Cool, who will want to convert the home advantage into resounding results with his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 – of Belgium Racing. Also the leader in the 992 AM category, Philippe Wils (Speedlover), and the guests Nicolas Vandierendonck and Filip Teunkens, who compete with the cars of Q1 Trackracing, will sell their lives dearly and will also participate in the overall battle, in addition to the race in the '992 AM' class. There is also a home advantage for NGT Racing, which sends a real rookie to Limburg with François Mélotte, while the Dutch Lennart Hiemstra (Triple & Crown Racing) and Alfred Lenferink (Hans Weijs Motorsport) are in the battle for victory in '992 AM’ too.
Also remarkable is the growth in the number of Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport participating. “We have indeed noted that for the round at Circuit Zolder, half of our participants will drive the new GT4 car from Porsche. That is very positive and I hope that number will continue to grow for the races in Assen, Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort,” said Series Manager Lars Plato.
In the various Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, we have to pay attention to Mees Muller (PG Motorsport), who won twice in Zandvoort, but Tyler Eaton (RFF Motorsport) and Dino van der Geest (Team GP Elite) will certainly compete in front. We can also expect tough battles in the 'GT4 AM' class, with leader G. King (W.D.P. Racing), Menno van de Grijspaarde (Team GP Elite), Bas Barenburg (Bas Koeten Racing), Caspar Hogeboom (Team GP Elite) and Henk van Norel (Snel Motorsport).
The racing action is set to start on Thursday, June 20 at 9:05 am with a free practice of one hour, while just before noon, at 11:20 am, both starting grids will be determined during the qualifying sessions. The two intense 30-minute sprint races will follow at 1:45 PM and 3:40 PM.
