Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux starts this week at Circuit Zandvoort

  • New season of the competition that is a perfect stepping stone in the Porsche motorsport pyramid

  • Five rounds which are held entirely on a weekday, on four different circuits in the Benelux

Zonhoven, May 28, 2024. With a test day on Wednesday, May 29th and the first round on Thursday, May 30th, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux 2024 will start this week. The competition for various types of racing cars from the legendary German sports car brand is characterized by a compact format which is targeted at mostly gentlemen drivers. The Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux is the perfect stepping stone for gentlemen drivers who come from Porsche track days or elsewhere to take their first steps in motorsport, but of course experienced drivers and young talent are very welcome too. The start of the season takes place at Circuit Zandvoort and the season continues with rounds at Circuit Zolder, Assen, Spa-Francorchamps, and Circuit Zandvoort again for the final round of the 2024 season.

Series manager Lars Plato looks forward to starting the new of the season of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, “a series that is gaining fame, but in my opinion does not yet receive the attention it deserves. We offer a very nice platform, especially for gentlemen drivers, although young drivers are of course always welcome to take their first steps in our competition and experienced drivers are welcome as well. Therefore, it perhaps is a good idea to explain the basis of our competition again.”

The Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux has five racing days, on four different circuits in the Benelux, with all the action on one weekday. Each round consists of one free practice of 60 minutes, two subsequent qualifying sessions of fifteen minutes and two races of thirty minutes. “This allows the racing drivers to complete a race round in one day, meaning that the entire competition only spans five days this season.”

Various Porsche models are welcome to participate in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, ranging from the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 991, to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992, to the all-new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

That is why there are various classes in the competition, including the general classification, the 992 class, the 992 AM class, the 991 class, the GT4 RS class and the GT4 RS AM class. This way, everyone can fight within their class, in addition to the battle for overall victory of course. We also allow the use of ABS, which makes the step from track days to competition as smooth as possible. We want to be an accessible competition, where anyone can join without any problems. That is why, in addition to the regular participants, there is always the opportunity to participate in one or more races and thus become acquainted with motorsport.”

The starting field of the opening race at Circuit Zandvoort offers a nice mix between the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - Type 992 - and the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, "while later this season we will also have the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup - Type 991 - appear at the start. It is absolutely not the case that the competition revolves around one type of car. In the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, anyone can compete with his or her Porsche at their own pace.

So mark your calendar for the first round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux on Thursday, May 30, after which the competition will race at Circuit Zolder at the end of June.
